Sometimes there's need to modify certain types of crops to guarantee their survival. This need most often leads to creativity and new invention methods to make it a reality. As one of the systems that have been around for a long time, biodiversity is a very important aspect of human lives. Without this system, we wouldn't have the variety of crops or animals that thrive to maintain sustenance. The balance of the ecosystem as a whole would also be in danger. Also known as agrobiodiversity, agricultural biodiversity refers to the wide spectrum of modifications that result from human inventions or natural processes and lead to new types of all agricultural products ranging from plants to animals.
Agricultural biodiversity also ensures the survival of rare species that are on the brink of extinction by allowing breeding. Aside from that, it controls the agro-ecosystem by ensuring that no living organism suffocates or starves the other. If people depended on just one type of crop production, it wouldn't be enough. Even with the variety that we have, it gets to a point where the plantation site isn't as productive as it should. In this case, agrobiodiversity comes in to ensure increase in production even if it means using a different species of crops or plants. This situation applies to all living organisms including trees.
Together with all this, agricultural biodiversity helps in maintaining the level of microorganisms present in the environment at all times. Some organisms like pests, weeds or diseases in the soil could destroy or help your crops thrive every time you plant. This together with others found in the air like pollinators need nutrient rotation. Without agrobiodiversity, it would be impossible to maintain a healthy balance between all these harmful and resourceful organisms and keep the diseases at bay. It would also be impossible to have a healthy balance between the domesticated animals we have and those found in the forests. In order to conserve wild life we need agricultural biodiversity. Water creatures need this system as well in order to survive. Without it, it would be tough to conserve fish and other aquatic creatures, which would lead to their complete extinction.
Contrary to most people's opinions, the human race depends on agrobiodiversity and not the other way round. It's not just important in providing food for most people but it also promotes unity among several communities by giving a sense of inter-reliance. It makes it possible to transfer one species from one place to another thereby bringing the people who have to exchange these species together. It also makes it possible to control natural processes like erosions thereby maintaining the soil nutrients keeping it fertilized at all times. Even something as basic as waste removal and disposition largely relies on this system.
All living creatures need agricultural biodiversity to survive. The whole ecosystem is a race between different kinds of organisms both living and non-living. Without proper balance, one would remove the other leading to an imbalance in the entire ecosystem. Since we rely on each other, if one species were not around the others would suffer as well. From nutrient rotation, soil maintenance, water retention, pest control and the entire environmental conversation, agrobiodiversity is a necessity.
